Welcome to Pre-K! My name is Ms. Sylvia and I’m the Lead Teacher. I have 35 years experience in early childcare and this will be my eleventh year to teach at Scottsville Road Baptist Preschool. I moved to Portland, Tennessee from Austin, Texas. I have a daughter, son, and a daughter-in-law as well as grandchildren. They are the reason I moved to Tennessee to be closer to them.

This age is such an exciting time! It is a time of change, new beginnings, new experiences, new friends and new challenges. By working together, we can make this a happy and rewarding experience.

As your child’s first and most important teacher, you can encourage the love of learning by the excitement you show about the papers they bring home and ask about their day. You will receive a weekly outline every Monday telling you what we will be learning in class that week. Please check their folders everyday; this will be one of the ways to know what will be going on and I will leave all important notes for you.

My name is Ms. Kelsey and I am Ms. Sylvia’s assistant. I was born in Tennessee and have lived in Kentucky for seven years after moving here from Arkansas. Growing up on farms, I have always enjoyed being around and working with animals, especially the babies and young ones! As I grew older, I realized that not only did I do best around animals, but also around small children!

After moving to Kentucky, I completed two years of high school in public schools and then attended a private Christian home school for my Junior and Senior years. During this time, I was given the responsibilities of helping the younger children with their work and studies as well as helping in the main office, which led to co-op work for a Realtor in town and after graduating continued as her secretary.

God has blessed me with the desire to “milk cows” and for the past five years I have been growing my Jersey herd. I have milked and raised calves the past two years and also milked at Chaney’s dairy for several months.

I am looking forward to getting to know your children and spending time with them.
